Make Your Own Autumn Immune Boosting Syrup

As we head into autumn, learn about the herbal medicines that boost the immune system early in the cold and flu season.

You will learn how to make your own herbal syrup and be prepared for the colder days ahead. We’ll use some herbs and spices that might be familiar to you, and some that might be new to you. Herbal syrups are traditionally taken on a daily basis during autumn and winter months to strengthen immunity.

You have the option to make your own syrup during the workshop. If you’d like to do this, please bring a selection of dried herbs to the workshop as well as the other items listed below. A handout will be sent to you at the end of the session which you can refer to if you choose to make the syrup in your own time.

Things to bring to the workshop:

  • *A selection of dried herbs (40g in total): eg Elderberry, Thyme, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Astragalus, Star anise, Liquorice.
  • *Sugar (900g)
  • Cooking Pot and lid
  • Muslin cloth/sieve
  • Spoon
  • Funnel
  • Water
  • Kitchen scales
  • Measuring jug
  • A sterilised bottle (500ml), ideally with a smaller neck than body to make it easier to pour the mixture onto a spoon
  • Label and pen
  • Access to a hob to heat the mixture

Finally, a gentle reminder that herbs are greatly beneficial to us but are no substitute for a healthy lifestyle which is the best immune booster!
